Here are my dime-a-dozen box cameras. #1: Brownie Starflash. Given to me in a terrible state. I may restore it in the future. #2: Brownie Junior 620. #3: Brownie 620 Model C. Nice Art Deco style to it. #4: Brownie 620 Model D. Thios one even comes with flash contacts. #5: Hanimex Standard 120. This onelooks like it may be a rebadged Agfa box camera. I say this because the knob for the wider is the same. It also has a yellow filter built in. #6: Agfa. Non descript box camera. Shutter is non operational. Heath

I've got a box or two of those, I just don't have the space to display them, I also have a box of flash units and bulbs to go with them... somewhere?

Some years ago I made plans to specialize in collecting only two different type of cameras, It came clear to me, that if I don't, my room and soon the whole residence will be full of cameras and it would not help much if my wife would move to more spacious place. My choice was: Marja-Liisa (my wife), box cameras and Single Lens Reflex cameras with an optionality to accept any other kind of camera if my firmness for some reason will break down. Box cameras are underestimated but I feel them interesting. Generally, they are not expensive and some of them are really decorative. Here is some of my box cameras. More individualized pages are "under construction" ;D lauro.fi/boxit2.htmRegards Reijo

I am very fond of box cameras because: a/ they are inexpensive b/ they are plentiful c/ there is a great variety d/ they are almost always working e/ they are usually in good condition cosmetically and mechanically f/ they are simple to repair My favourites are the British made Kodak Brownie Six-20 models C, D, E & F. I like their design and they are very well made. The Ensign Vul-Vue's are a close second because of their unique but not frivolous design although I despair of ever getting the red and blue models. I do find it difficult to draw the line between box cameras and other cameras when the boxes start adding additional features. My only guideline is that they must be simple. Here are some hastily made pictures of some of my box cameras. Mickey

Neat collections of box cameras!Mickey: You're going to require a new, larger room soon! I've only got a few: This Kodak #2 Bulls-Eye (c.1897)... ...and this Zeiss Box Tengor (c1934-39)... ...are my favorites.

Don't have a single box camera (Unless you count the Ensign Ful-Vues). Having had one as a boy it always seemed to me to be something to avoid!

I'm so glad other people like the humble box camera. I was beginning to think I was in a minority of one! I find them quite fascinating, and though they all look fairly similar there are more detail variations in design than many people suppose. I've put some of them on my website with a short screed about them and about box cameras in general - one of my usual ramblings! If anyone fancies a look, go to www.peterwallage.com and click on My Cameras -> Box Cameras. I've got a few, but not as many as you, Mickey. I also tend to class box cameras as cameras in the shape of a box, though I may include those which are a little different in that they're usually plastic and have an eye-level viewfinder. Kodak, Ilford and Agfa all offered this style at one time. They're not all on my website, nor are quite a few more of my cameras, but I'm working on an update as and when I can find the time between all the other jobs that seem to want my attention. Retirement? What's that? . PeterW

Mickey
You have listed all the right reasons for collecting box cameras and you could add that because of the variety they are very interesting in their own right. I am stuck in the same boat as Reijo and had to make the same choices. Too many interesting cameras and so little time and money.
