When I was first getting into photography back about 1960, I really wanted a way to make black and white slides. Somewhere I found a book with a recipe for photo bleach and instructions for how to reverse black and white film to a positive. I remember I had to make the bleach from scratch--can't remember where I got the ingrediants. I do remember there were all sorts of warnings about what the chemicals and fumes could do to me. I remember the bleach solution was bright orange in color.
Eventually, I shot a roll of Plus X. During the developing process the film had to be exposed to a light source and bleached. I was amazed that the process actually worked but it did.
I think I only reversed one roll of film but was pretty proud of myself for pulling it off (I was still in high school at the time). Of course today there's no reason for doing that sort of stuff because you can do it all in Photoshop.

Sounds like a fun process. I've noticed there seems to be a growing population of craft photographers reviving the old ways. Heres a link to a place that sells chemical kits for many such processes as well as a variety of box cameras etc. I received their catalog a while back, it has a lot of cool things. www.freestylephoto.biz/e_main.phpSteve
