So really we don't have so much in common at all......!! My wife says that if I add in the other interests that you will be CONVINCED that these are genetically related. While not necessarily "hobbies" she says to add in: - Collecting and fooling around with audio equipment
- Collecting and fooling around with computers
- Taking apart most anything that doesn't work and trying to fix it, no matter how cheaply you can replace it
- Collecting boxes and boxes of "wires" and what other people generally consider junk
It is these underlying tendencies, she asserts, that proves the genetic linkage! I guess I'm certainly guilty as charged.

Any of you gun collectors/shooters out there have an interest in 1940/50 vintage Brno rifles? Bob I don't do Brno rifles, I am more into Italian, USSR, Swiss, and USA target pistols and revolvers. I think I own the strangest looking pistol ever made, the Morini CM 80 Super Comp free pistol. I will try to take a quick picture and post it. Dwight

I seem to recall the Morini from days gone by. I have never seen one in the flesh. I used a Browning International Medalist and a S&W Mod 52 with BoMar rib for CF matches. There were plenty of Walther GSP/OSPs used here also at that time. Finest revolver from the factory that I ever owned was a blued Colt Python with 6 inch Barrel. Other favourites were a Browning Inglas Hi Power with shoulder stock, C96 mauser with shoulder stock, AMT Hardballer 45 stainless and a Steyer-Hahn.

Yup - it's funny how audio and cameras are inextricably linked...
#Ferrograph reel to reels and others for me. #Don't collect computers but I do mess around with them. # I seem to "acquire" other folk's "junk" with alarming regularity, equally alarming quantities and with nowhere to put it....

It really is amazing the similarity of interests which members of this group have. I was never into firearms because of the very tight gun laws in the UK, but at one time I had some rather nice air rifles and pistols which I fettled and played with and got some of them up to 'firearms' muzzle velocity - at least the UK gun law's definition of muzzle velocity. I've got just one air rifle now, which I kept because it's the same model as the first one I ever owned as a lad of about twelve. It's a BSA model D, made about 1924. It's not working at the moment because the trigger latch is worn. Absolutely no chance of getting parts, so if I ever get around to restoring it I'll have to make a new latch. BobM wrote: I had a massive, and very heavy, Ferrograph reel to reel once - half-inch tape! Mono of course. But I sold it together with all the other 'vintage' audio stuff I had, mostly valve (tube) stuff. Nowadays, all I've got is a Sharp tuner/amp, a Technics amp and a Sony turntable which I use occasionally to work my way through all my vinyls and put them on CD via my computer, taking out the hiss and pops on the way. Somewhere or other, but I'm blowed if I know quite where, I've still got an old Goldring 78rpm turntable and amp, a GL (Goldring Lenco) something or other but I can't even remember the number. I put it away because the plastic 'cotton reel' speed controller started to get ridges in it. I used to acquire, or accumulate (I won't say collect), all sorts of old junk which I found interesting at the time, and because it was either being thrown away when friends moved house, or was going for peanuts on market stalls or at autojumbles. I've been living in the same house for nearly 36 years, and I hadn't even looked at any of it for years, but I sorted a lot of out recently. Bits of automobilia from the 1920s and 1930s like radiator badges, mascots and old dashboard instruments, about 30 old watches from the 1930s to 1950s, old hand tools from the 1920s and 1930s, a couple of old telephones, a couple of acetylene bicycle lamps. . . I gave it all a clean and put it up on ebay with silly-low starting bids. I was staggered, and very pleased, with the amount it all fetched. I really must dig out more! . Dan Vincent said that if he ever sold some of his old stuff on ebay he could make a small fortune, and majicman said he collected with an investment eye to retirement. I didn't accumulate all that stuff with anything particular in mind, except that it attracted me at the time, but they are both right. I've suddenly discovered that my accumulated 'junk' is something of a nest-egg! Collectable film cameras, except some of the exotica, seem to have gone down in value in the past few years, but collectable junk seems to be on the up and up. I think maybe I'll sort out a few more bits before the bubble bursts! . PeterW

The last wave of gun laws drove me out of the game as far as pistols were concerned. There are only so many hoops a sane person will jump through to participate in a hobby. BSA bring back memories too for me. My big bore match rifle was a 7.62 model and darn good too so long as you had a spare extractor handy. I guess I'm a pack rat for other stuff too as the crowded condition of my basement suggests. If it is old/odd I want it.

My granddad on my dad's side was a gamekeeper so as a result my dad was proficient with rifles and shotguns - his favourite firearm was a punt gun without the punt....
I'd need to ask him exactly what the bore was, although I think it might have been around 2".
PeterW: My Ferrographs are all 1/4" - I'll post some shots of them. I also have a couple of Goldring Lenco TTs that I still use along with a Leak tuner and amp. Like you, I've also found that a lot of the stuff I acquired years ago, has attained collector status even though that wasn't my intention at the time - again like you, it was because I liked it.

I have been operating CB radios for about 30 years now. at one point I had all this big stuff including directional antenna's. I now just keep one in the car, it is not what it used to be.
I have been playing Bass guitar for about 27 years or so. I have had what some would consider classic equipment now but back in the late 70's early 80's it was just old stuff.. I was jamming with bands here and there till about 3 years ago. now once in a while I just play with my Brother in law in his basement. I have a Rickenbacker 4003 4 string bass and an Ampeg B100r that is pretty loud. last year I bought a Les Paul and tried my hand at guitar. that isnt working out so well....lol
I moved out of NYC 6 years ago and found that upstate the Gun laws are much better. I have a few handguns that I love to shoot targets with and carry for personal protection.
I have been interested in photography for years but never pursued it as a hobby till a few months ago when My brother got into it. his enthusiasm about it was contagious.
I played BBall softball, bowling and what not but I am getting to old for that stuff anymore. too old to go out and jam with the younger generation when I have to explain to them who Black sabbath and the doors are....

My other interests? I make chainmail. Not the annoying crap you get in the mail, or e-mail either, but the armor type like the knights used to wear and you see at Renfaires. It's very time consuming, but you have lots of time to think also.
Other than that being a Dad is the coolest thing for me.

Chainmail is pretty cool, as long as it isn't used like that idiot Big Pappa Pump on TNA Wrestling on Spike TV uses it...LOL He wears it like a headress and kisses his biceps.

Wasn't it Shania Twain whose boyfriend kissed his carving knife? That didn't impress me much either!!

This is a serious question.
Is your chainmail used for the gloves that butchers use?
