Waay off topic but this weekend I sat down and watched a movie that gets better every time I see it. "The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance" was directed by John Ford back in 1962--one of the last black and white films of note. Stars include John Wayne, Jimmy Stewart and Lee Marvin in what was probably his first starring role.
What strikes me about the film is there are a lot of colorful characters in it and Ford cast every on absolutely perfectly and the script is awesome.
Couldn't figure out why it only got one Academy Award nomination--for best costume design! But then I did some research. 1962 was also the year "Lawrence of Arabia," The Manchurian Candidate" and "The Days of Wine and Roses" were released.
If you love John Ford movies this is one of his greatest IMO but different in many respects than his normal film. The is almost no musical score behind it and when there is you hardly notice it's there.
In those days there were real actors and real directiors who didn't depending on chase scenes, explosions or computer generated special effects to sell tickets.

Wayne, you are absolutely right except in one point I would like to to ad my comment because I think that today you must ad explosions or/and sexual discrepancy, etc. if you want to sell a movie.
Happy first of May!!

Reijo:
Also saw a travel piece on Helsinki this weekend. A beautiful place. I didn't realize it was so small (about 500,000 people). Have you every been to the church blasted out of solid rock that is covered with the copper dome?

I saw the movie this weekend also. Even though I've seen it about a dozen times over the years I can't help watching it when it's on, great movie.
