All started when I got a riding lawn mower. For it to work properly I needed to modify the yards somewhat. While doing that my mate decided it would be a good time to replace out cracked, too small patio with a larger one.
The concrete guy came out, looked things over and said there was one very important thing I needed to do. He wanted me to mark the route of any sprinkler lines that might be in the way. So, I found the lines and marked their route by spray painting a line on the grass.
Yesterday the concrete came. They broke up the old concrete, built a form and poured the new patio--twice as big as the old one.
It's supposed to reach almost 100 F here today. So this morning, before going to work, I turned on the section of springlers on the part of the lawn than takes the worste beating from the sun. Only a trickle of water ran out.
I ran to the back yard. A geyser of water was shooting up right next to the new concrete. When the crew put in the forms, somebody drove a long iron stake right through my painted line and right through my sprinkler line buried beneath it!!
So tonight (the hottest part of the day) I will be digging.

He's either going to pay the bill for having it done or knock something off the price. I'm trying to look on the positive side. I need to relocate a sprinkler because of the extended patio and I should be able to do that at the same time. There are three major lines down there and I know the one that's broken isn't the one I need for the relocated sprinkler. Now I only have two lines to choose from

Wayne, I hope you get your problems fixed with minimal hassle.
I once sold a new home to a couple and the first load of clothes the wife washed caused the wash water to back up and overflow. In making the form for the concrete driveway, one of the wooden stakes was driven straight through the drain pipe going to the sewer. Anything but a dead center strike would have glanced off the pipe. A rag - probably from the Plumber - caught on the stake and completed the plug.

Wayne,
You should borrow a camera to take pictures of the damage in case you have to go to court. Meanwhile, pray for rain.
