Joe, I'm having fun all right -- too much fun. I think I need to stop shooting with it for a little while so I can catch up on post processing. The next few days I may shoot film exclusively so I have time to think It's an unusual move for you, but I think a good one. But what're ya gonna tell 'em down on the farm? (meaning RFF) Gene

(meaning RFF)... i'm the mod there and spend most of my time there...but not all of my time. i can post some digi-pics here and at nelson and of course my blogs. i took your cue and started an only photo blog, for rf pics. my other words & pics blog can handle my digital output. i also stared a blog for work related pics that makes viewing the photos easier for people at work. and i don't want to put alot of time/effort into the work pics so digital is perfect. there are things i like about digital, ease of processing for one.

No disagreement from me, Joe! BTW, I'll just throw this out -- overall I think the image quality of my Canon A620 is better, on average, than the S3IS. It's also handier to use at more 'normal' focal lengths. The S3 comes into its own at long tele, but the cam doesn't always focus perfectly at that range. IS is nice of course. IQ is not bad on the S3, but I'd give a nod to the 620. Gene

A rather unusual and seldom seen pattern from the 'big boys' high up there.
Now, a ignorant question from this, so far only film camera guy, what is the Canon S3 IS...a P&S?? Will have to look in my photo mags or zip into Canon's website.
I am still comtemplating the P&S digital move...it is getting a little stronger and I am still resisting even though I definately see a use for such.

Ron, it could be called a P&S though it's more than just that because you can set everything manually, including focus. But of course it can be put in Auto P&S mode. Here's a review with pix: www.dpreview.com/reviews/canons3is/Gene

It's a tough call, Joe. Mostly it depends on what you want to do with the cam. The A620 is very, very good and downright excellent at macro shooting. And convenient -- I carry mine in a small belt pouch.
I got the S3 for two basic reasons: I shoot a lot around the local harbour and need the extra reach of the lens to get many of my shots, and I wanted the IS particularly for movie mode (the movie mode of the S3 is downright amazing).
They're both good buys.

and neither of those functions is of great import to me. i am rethinking the 620. i'm thankful i had to wait for the bank transfer as it's given me some extra time to think. joe
