Bill,
A beautiful shot. There is, indeed, something special about the black and white medium that colour cannot capture.

I like this picture, Bill, and as Mickey said black and white suits it perfectly. I much prefer that type of place to a modern plastic and chrome affair. When I first saw it though I thought for one incredulous split second that they'd got eine Abbildung des Führer hanging on the stairs! PeterW

Wonderful shot Bill. Peter, that did look like Das Shoe Clerk to me also at first.

Very moody, this one Bill. No - on the whole I think you got it too dark. I know - I'm a Philistine!
When I'm about 75 I intend to go and see my sister in Hamilton. I'm going to make a point of visiting Balzacs!

John,
Give me a heads up when you are in Canada, I'll round up Gene (Harbourlight) and we'll do a Balzac's run.
I think the scan makes the print darker slightly.

Give me a heads up when you are in Canada, I'll round up Gene (Harbourlight) and we'll do a Balzac's run. Indeed, we'll treat you to a delicious Balzac's cuppa (they roast their own beans onsite) and then to a fine pint of microbrew in one of the adjacent pubs. Nice picture, Bill. It looks like it was shot some 40 years ago. Gene

Gene,
Actually it was shot last fall the same day as a Rangefinder Forum Meet Up.
John,
Don't worry we won't make you take a picture of the truck (even though its around the corner).

Very nice, indeed! If it weren't for the modern clothing, that could have been taken 100 years - or more - ago. It just has that feel to it.

I like the shot, too, but agree it seems dark.......but that's probably my monitor here at work. It's not calibrated for anything but Powerpoint presentations and Excel spreadsheets! LOL!! ;D I'll look again when I get home, and see how it looks on that monitor!

John, if you meet those guys you have to take a picture of the truck, it's a prerequisite to getting back out of the country. ;D

Looks better here at home on this monitor....top of stair still just a wee bit dark, but a nice shot....love the atmosphere of the place.
