Recent photo of Annie our Beagle shot with D100. Annie is almost 14 and as you can see she is a faded image of her former self. She has as many while hairs as I have. Here hearing and sight aren't as keen as they once were and most importantly, her sense of smell is going. Annied used to be able to track a robin across our yard several hours after the bird had left the area. Now I think she might have trouble trailing an elephant.

Thought your robins were the size of an elephant! Lovely picture. She's doing OK. There are local beagle packs here whose task in life is to hunt hares. When I pointed out that I quite liked to see hares around the spot, the answer I was given (by somebody I trusted) was "A beagle can't catch a healthy hare - the only hares the'll ever catch are the old and slow ones" And that seemed reasonable, until you thought about it.
And who are the old and slow ones?.....

The squirrels used to taunt her mercilessly and would always beat her to a tree by about a half step. Now they don't bother her as much because she nomally doesn't see or hear them.
Annie has been an interesting companion--but we would NEVER get another beagle.

Nice portrait. I read a gentle wisdom in that face.

Wayne, that's a nice shot of Annie. Our Lab/mix is also getting long in the tooth but still has a great sense of smell.
Our neighbor across the street has a beagle and he is one funny yet loveable dog. They also have a Bassett Hound and the two love to aggrevate each other.

Beautiful old Beagle Wayne. Our old timer is slowing down signifaicantly too but so am I so we're still a good match. I think puppies and old dogs are both at their cutest. I know a beagle, border collie as well as several other breeds can be a handful, but where would our lives be without them. Without my dog to wake me up at sunrise every day and my wife to find me a honey do list I'm not sure how I could function, LOL. If anything happens to our old timer we've already decided to go back to the local dog pound and rescue two next time so they have each other for company when we're not home. Personally since I have no kids to spoil, I could have ten dogs and it wouldn't bother me a bit, you gotta spoil something.
