Sometimes you can get those dents out if you are brave enough to take the top cover off. I have straightened quite a few.

Thirty three of anything is a lot. Wish I could say I have every model of anything, but I let collecting get out of hand years back. Now I just have a few of most everything. Except a Rollieflex/cord, Hasselblad or the "L" word (spoken softly so the wife won't hear, "Leica".) I have 26 Yashica RF's, does that count? Still need GT, Professional, etc. the list goes on.....

Dear All, I have the Service Manual, no author id. or anything. Taking the top off is not that well stated. Undo the screws securing the top, undo rewind, which will not go back in. Take out the rewind seat, How! How doe's the rewind seat come out, special spanner, I have only have an aircraft engineers toolkit biased to instruments & electrics. The camera SRT 100 I bought for spares, I got a great little lens with it 45mm f2 basically for free. I thought that if I take out most of the parts it will save me disassembly time, which would cost more money & as a pensioner we have limited funds. I looks like I will have to buy a much better book on Minolta. Any recommendations. Many thanks to all. MJKTHELAST. Norwich England.

Once upon a time , I bought the latest , much praised SLR . Eventually I traded this fiddly , spiky controls , OM1 for an ancient SRT 200 [ used import into UK ] a new SRT IOIb [ one of the last , followed ] and I now have just 6 . There is something ... smoother somehow compared to the contemporary Nikons / Canons etc . I have to confess that the SR1s and SR7v are my favourites .

Ass long as we are on the subject of SRs and SRTs, I have always been fascinated as to why the SR2 preceded the SR1. Any ideas?

Dave, I think Minolta was simply very prescient. They knew that doing something quirky like that would keep hard-core loyalists like us speculating and talking for year. A great way to keep us talking about Minolta!

Randy,
There used to be a tutorial on recalibrating the SRT exposure meter to use a silver button cell; I presume you do that when fixing them up?

No, I'm still using the old batteries. I charge them with an old Panasonic charger I got at a yard sale. I have 40 Minolta SRTs now, I got an SRT-303B recently.

My first SLR was an SRT 200. I have used it, off and on for 30 years. When I started collecting other old cameras, I kept hearing about how great Spotmatics were. Now that I have one, I can see why I have always liked the SRT with its wide open metering. At smaller openings, I can barely see the meter on the Pentax. I guess that is why some cameras changed to LEDs for the meters, instead of needles.
I don't think you need to recalibrate the camera for the Silver cells , since they are pretty close to the mercury cell voltage. I have been using alkaline 625's with no problems, although I do use print film which has more latitude.

Maybe the Minoltas are like the Pentax Spotmatics. They have what is called a "bridge circuit" which means they can use silver rather than mercury cells without modification.

A contagion I think. I have a passle (is that a word, LOL?) of new to me Minoltas coming in the mail too.
