Couldn't let these Spotties and Nikies and Mins steal all the limelight so here's a pic of my oldest Canon, a Canonflex RP from about 1960. I used to have a couple of Canon rangefinders but was tempted into selling them a few years ago when funds were lower than usual. PeterW

After seeing the Yashica J posted elsewhere, I was tempted to unpack my stuff and submit a photo of my Canonflex. Yours looks better than mine, Peter. Mine fell on its head sometime in its life. In the Canon tradition, it wears its scars proudly and continues to work fine.

The old mechanical Canons are heavy old tanks, but they're tough. I've seen some quite battered looking examples still clicking away happily.
I was very fortunate in acquiring my Canonflex. I was sitting having a coffee at a friend's house one day about four years ago when he suddenly produced it. He'd found it among his late father's effects and wanted it to go to a good home. Refused to take a penny for it.

I would love to feel the bottom winder on one of those. You really have a lot of leverage with that thing.

I think it's a natural reaction for somebody who's been bereaved to look for somebody with a similar affiliation as their friend or loved one.
Makes you think - when I pop my clogs, people are going to look at my cameras, and not have a clue as to whether they are any good or not. In many cases I don't have a clue myself!!
Yes, I must try to do some serious evaluation, and take notes!
Regards - John

I bought a used original that quit working immediately. A quick peek under the baseplate showed a repair had been made in the advance mech. An improvement was made either during production of the first model or when the R-2000 and RP were introduced. There used to be a pulp paper classified publication called Camera Shopper or something like that. There was a column in it commenting on the Canonflex film advance in comparison to the Nikon F. I'll have to dig it out sometime. Bill
