Well, I did it again. In two weeks I will be the owner of a Mamiya/Sekor DSX-1000 camera. Another ebay win for $29.53 total. I hope it's a good one as it's been in storage for a few years according to the seller. Herron as the man with the Golden Mamiya, what can you tell me about these that isn't on your site page?

Not a whole lot I can add to the site copy...except the lenses were remarkably good. Much better than folks were willing to rate them at the time they came out.
Will they show lines of resolution in the corners as well as Nikon or Zeiss lenses...maybe not. But they're close...so close most people would never notice in their daily shooting...unless, of course, your daily shooting includes resolution charts. In which case, I'll include you in my prayers. LOL!! ;D
I hope it's in good shape when it arrives!

I'm not lucky when it comes to Mamiya cameras. Every time I buy one it has a bad meter or bad shutter. I paid $45 for a DSX-1000 and it had a bad meter, of course it was from a seller that didn't know anything about cameras....(yeah right) and was selling it as is. Maybe some day I'll luck out and get one example that works good. I guess the crux of the situation is that people don't get rid of their Mamiyas unless it's broke. Now that is dedication, eh?

A lot of the old Mamiya's, particularly in the TL/DTL and SX series, have faulty meters. I had a couple where a previous owner had left the battery inside for an extended period, and the corrosion had eaten through that tiny blue connecting wire. On several a simple re-solder fixed them. I've been told that you can get new (not from Mamiya) CdS cells to replace them and they will work just fine...however, I've never done that. BTW -- I'm sure the seller knew enough to realize the meter wasn't working but, of course, "he didn't have a battery so he could check.........."

I got the camera today, and with the exception of the self timer lever being gone, and the shutter speeds below 1/15, or so being a bit slow to cycle through, it looks to be as good as could be expected.
