Anyone here had experience with the Zeiss Icarex? I saw one at a camera show recently and was favorably impressed -- I think it was the M42 version. I know the word "build-quality" is pretty subjective, but I think most experienced camera users would say if they'd handled it that this SLR had it. I regret not buying it!

I have one and there is even loaded but I have had no time to shoot with it. Next week is fully booked too. I have a barber then, you know ;D My Icarex has a bayonet mount so my lens assortment is rather small (50mm, 135mm) All I can tell about Icarex is on my page: www.thecamerasite.net/01_SLR_Cameras/Pages/zeisicarex.htmPlease have a look at Olympus OM-1 page too. Regards Reijo

Reijo, whenever I visit your web site, I always think how much better you illustrate and describe your cameras than the majority of enthusiasts do. A really professional approach (that's not just an idle comment - after all, I now try to earn my living as a commercial webmaster!)
Interesting eclectic colection. You obviously score "Brownie" points for having two examples of my favourite cameras the Nikon FE/FE2. Wonderful cameras, ergonomically perfect and I'll whisper this just in case Wayne overhears - so much better than a D200! (I don't like the handling of mine at all - I would change were it not for the fact it takes my Nikon lenses)
However, I also commend you for "dipping a toe" into Topcon waters!
Now take a deep beadth and get a proper one - the RE! Perhaps even an "R" if you prefer the Nikon F school of automation. Think of Icarex build, but even better!
Paul

Reijo,
Thanks for the interesting link. Your article seems to imply the Icarex has some reliability issues. Sometimes these are hard to sort out from a badly designed camera or just an old camera if you know what I mean. For instance, many SLR's from the same era need work (perhaps most). Nikkormats, Nikon F's, and Spotmatics seem to hold together better than most of their bretheren.
Do you know if there was a T, T4, or TX for the Icarex BM?

I haven't seen any adapter for Icarex BM but Stephen Gandy (Camera Quest) has listed a BM to M42 adapter. After, you asked it I did some "googling" and didn't find any new. Classic discontinued (and often hard to find) Adapters
Paul, I know, that Unirex is not a "real" Topcon . I still regret my niggardliness about two years ago. On a Swedish ebay Tradera, a mint Topcon Super D was sold ca. 160$. (on the second round?)
