I have read a number of comments that one of the favorable side benefits for Minolta from their relationship with Leitz in the 1970s was a Leitz influence on some MC and/or MD lenses. I believe the MD W Rokkor X 24/2.8 is one such lens. Does anyone have a list or comments to add about other lenses that were shared or Leitz designs?

The one I bought recently appears to be one
MD 35-70 f3.5 was also sold as the Leitz Vario-Elmar R 35-70 f3.5. Pictures do show great similarities.
That's the good bit. I was so pleased with my mint example for a few £s that I then wanted to find out a bit more about it. So I checked in the nearest Leica forum to read about it.
Optically they rated it, but mechanically they said don't touch the Japanese version! Why? Because the mount rocks!
Sure enough mine might be mint in appearance, but it does rock quite badly. I looked at the mount, tightened up every screw I can see, but its obviously internal.
Anyone know how to sort it? Does the "rocking" matter?

Rover, this is not quite answering your question but I have a Leica Vario-Elmar-R 1:4.5/75-200mm lens which I believe is a Minolta design. I'm not sure that Leica had any input in the design but probably had a hand quality control. I also watch a Leica Reflex forum and the aficionados are quite scathing about the quality of the Minolta products produced by the liaison.. I suspect most of it is snobbishness. Certainly my lens looks well built to me as does most Minolta gear. I understand that the Minolta version of the Leica R3, the XE-7, is the more reliable of the two. The two cameras are not identical mechanically as Leica made some internal changes to their version. For more info on the Minolta/Leica cameras look at members.aol.com/manualminolta/leica.htm

I keep refocusing on my Minolta stuff and am looking to fill out my lens line up, well, I really don't need anything else, but what does need have to do with anything. At any rate, I guess I am trying to find a couple of gems that will look good in my treasure chest, and on my SRTs.
