I've found there is little or no information available online concerning SLRs made by Petri. I have a K-Mart FOCAL brand camera made by Kuribayashi Petri that is a M42 screwmount. It has the shutter release on the front like a Praktica camera. The camera came with a standard Focal 50mm lens and a Focal 200mm lens. The back of the owners manual says Made in Japan for S.S. Kresge Company. Anyone able to tell me a little about these Petri/Focal SLRs?

Yeah, that was about all I could find Bob. That's pretty strange considering Kuribayashi was the first manufacturer of SLRs in Japan.

I picked up a Petri Penta a while ago. It had a F2 50mm Kuribayashi lens on it with the usual M42 screw mount threads. I suppose I could use my other Pentax screw mounts on it. It seems quite well made and mine is in good shape so I must run a roll thru it sometime soon to see what it can do.

I recently acquired a Perti Flex V from the early 196s (I had one back then). The earlier midels like the Petri V had a breech block lens mount like the old Canons. Somewhere I ran across a list of the various Petri models and years of manufacture bout can't find it now. The Petri was one of the early slrs with auto aperture and instant return mirror.

I've noticed there's quite a bit of information on-line for the PETRI Rangefinders cameras.

Ok just because you asked, Petri SLR's are: Petri Penta and Petriflex Series 1959 Petri Penta 1960 Petri Penta Automatic 1961 Petri Penta V2 Petri Penta Junior 1964 Petri Penta V3 1965 Petri Penta V6 1970 Petri Penta V6-II
Semi-Automatic Petri Reflex Cameras 1964 Petri Flex Seven 1967 Petri FT 1970 Petri FT-ll 1974 Petri FTX 1976 Petri FT 1000, FT500 1976 Petri MTF-1000 1977 Petri Micro MF-1
Fully Automatic Petri Reflex Cameras 1969 Petri FT-EE 1973 Petri FT-E 1975 Petri FA-1
The Petri FTX used the M42 mount (aka TTL or rebadged Safari sd 200). Previously Petri used their own bayonet mount. Hope this helps. It's all directly from The Collector's Guide to Kuribayashi-Petri Cameras.

I believe there is also a Petri Camera Collector's group as I used to correspond with a Petri SLR collector from Switzerland but have misplaced his address for the moment.

How can you tell the difference between Petri Penta models? I just have the one unit (S/N 908289) and assume it is the first - plain Petri Penta (circa 1959)

My very first SLR was a Petri VI, which i bought around 1965 or early 1966. Nice simple camera and it took decent pictures with the 55mm lens I had with it. However, I sold it some 30 years ago when I got my first Konica SLR.
