My "new" Leica R3 with 35mm Elmarit-R attached. It's "black chrome" finish is a little worn but it works OK.

Brian,
my first Leica relex was a Leicaflex SL (I still have one) and the 50mm Summicron 2-cam lens I bought for it had a sort of interesting history. I bought an R4 and as I had quite a collection of good 2-cam lens I had them converted to 3-cams by Leica (UK). They told me that the 50mm Summicron had started out as a 1-cam but had been modified at the factory to 2-cam before being distributed.

Brian,
The SLs are nice solid cameras and the last real Leica reflexes till the R8. The R3 to R7 were really deveopments of a Minolta design. Also the SLs are simple; not much to go wrong. The screens are all over micro-prism instead of the Contaflex style screen with centre focussing spot of the first Leicaflex. Only snag with the SL is that it takes a PX25 mercury battery for the meter but I've found that a modern 1.5v battery works fine in the camera.
