Picked up this nice Minolta XE-1 from ebay for fifty bucks. The XE-1 is a chrome version of the XE-7 that was sold in Europe. I compared metering with my XD-11 with identical lenses and they read the same. Everything seems to work except for the broken timer arm. For some reason the XE-1 seems larger than the identical size XE-7. I also have a black XD coming soon.

The XE-1 is a nice looking camera also.
Speaking of the XD...you have an XD11 I believe!? Any problem with the IC chip? I am seeing on one of the Minolta sites that this is a common problem with the XD's.
At this point of the game, the only other Minolta I was thinking of getting was an XD, but I would definately want a working one.

Ron, Yes, I have a chrome XD-11 and a black XD and they work fine. I know there is a capacitor problem on some Minoltas of the XD, XG and X-700 models but I suspect many other brands have similar problems. I try to excercise my cameras often as I like to keep the shutters limber, and also the stop down pins in the lenses from getting sticky. Twisting knobs will also keep contacts clean. There is a lot of information available on the net for changing out capacitors and they seem to be inexpensive and readily available. I've heard that Minolta X-700 cameras that were made in Japan have less capacitor problems than the China built models but that is still up for argument. A S/N of 22XXXXXX or below was made in Japan.

Nice XE-1, I think its the chrome that makes it feel bigger. I have my XE-7, my brother has an XE which is the Asian market edition, its all the same.
