In my quest for further information about Modern SLR cameras, I've found two axioms. The Phoenix camera, and the Phenix camera. Phoenix cameras were made in China and were a merger of Kalimar of and Phoenix Camera LTD. Kalimar was founded in 1954 in Japan as a camera exporter and their cameras were made in China, the USSR and Japan. Aires cameras were one of their brands. The Kalimar K-90 (of which I own a brand new model in the box that's never been used) is a cross between a Pentax K-1000 and a Pentax MX, and of course is a K mount camera. Kalimar cameras are marketed in the United States by Tiffen. Current models of the Phoenix are produced by Cosina in Japan. The Phoenix P2 is the same as a Cosina C3. Now Phenix cameras are produced by Seagull Camera LTD in China, and the Seagull cameras have always been copies of Minolta cameras, and Seagull currently produces cameras based on the Minolta X-370 in either Minolta MD mount or Pentax K mount. The current model is the Seagull DF2000A. There is also a Phenix DSC model this is a collaboration of Seagull and Cosina and very simular to the Kalimar K-90.
