Help continues to pour in from all over the country. As of the latest news tonight, there are over 19,500 firefighters attacking the fires here in Northern Ca. According to Cal-Fire, hundreds of fires have been contained. The largest are still actively burning, but are being attacked around the clock. The inversion layer lifted somewhat this afternoon and air ops resumed, with good results. While the corner has not yet been turned, the corner is at least in sight. Now if the weather will continue to co-operate-------------!Combined acerage burned is in excess of 400,000 acres, with 29 additional homes destroyed. Here is one of several staging areas here in Chico. This is the parking lot of the Silver Dollar Fairgrounds. On the back side of the fairgrounds is an even larger group of engines. Oly digital Some of these guys are sleeping under their trucks because there is no lodging to be had anywhere in the area. The sign on the pole says it all, if you can read it in this photo.
