Nikon has officially announced the new "prosumer" full frame camera positioned between the D300 and the Pro D3. The D700 is a half pound heavier and slightly larger than the D300 but lighter and smalled than the D3. You can own one for $3,000 U.S.
My D300 is good enough, thank you very much.

I heard the good news this morning. I knew there was a reason I put of buying a D300, to give me more time to save up for a D700. I always wanted my wides to be, well wides. It saves me buying a D300 and a 12-24 to replace the wides I already have so the difference is minimal compared to getting the D700 only. How is that for justifying a new toy?

Bob Bob, good on you for waiting! A couple of my friends have Canon 5D full-frame digitals (the Canon competitor to the D700) and I'm always amazed at the smoothness of the images. They're more akin to medium format than 35mm. I'd love a D700 but it's not even remotely in my budget for this year. Unless one of you would like to buy a really excellent, used, Hasselblad system from me Gene

Hassy outfit yum. For me I think it will be budget be darned. Yea, I noticed the smoothness too. There is some talk already that the FX sensor may not be a good match for older lenses not designed for digital. I think I have heard that before as justification for DX lenses for the DX sensors. Lots of speculation so we will see but I am betting it is so much techno babble.
