Well me and Freda went and rode a train thursday. It was at the Oil Creek & Titusville Railroad in Titusville Pennsylvania. I didn't want to take a bunch of equipment on a rockin and rollin train so I just took my Easyshare. Here are a coupe shots I snuck out the window without aiming when the engine went by to hook onto the other end of the train to pull us back to point "A". Locomotive is a former Canadian unit purchased used from an equipment broker. It's a M420 diesel built in the late 1970s by the Montreal Locomotive Works. (now defunct) The coaches are former Erie Railroad self powered Stillwell units built for New Jersey commuter service back in the 1930s that have had the power trucks replaced by regular trucks.

Looks like a well kept little operation, Randy. It appears they still haul freight, in addition to the tourist run. Vermont Rail System operates an excursion from Bellows Falls to Chester on ex-Rutland tracks. Nice, scenic ride if you ever get to Vermont.

I'm still hoping to take Freda to Cass Scenic Railroad in West Virginia, Strasburg Railroad in Lancaster Pennsylvania, and The East Broadtop in Orbisonia Pennsylvania. I've been to all three, but that was before we got married 29 years ago.

I am not a train aficionado so, perhaps, I missed the obvious but I have never seen RR tracks without ties. What holds those tracks in place?

We were told the line just had new ballast spread over it and the ballast sweepers(large machines that groom the roadbed) were'nt due until the end of July. The ties are there.

Don't forget the Pa. RR Museum across the street from the Strasburgh RR and if you are that close to Scranton Pa. There is the National RR Park, Steam Town and the ride to Moscow. A nice ride on a old steamer and they do run-bys at the turn around.
