Whatever the plural is... To follow along with Stephen's recent acquisition, I got these together for a family picture. The Nikkorex F is the Mamiya designed/produced little brother to the Nikon F. The Ricoh Singlex is the same camera in a new set of clothes. The top cover at front, center belongs to a Ricoh Singlex TLS that is the basis for the three Sears cameras. Back, center is a Sears SL-11. This is the screw mount version. The earlier SL-11 with bayonet mount is Ricoh Singlex with Sears badging glued over the Ricoh engraving. Next on the right is a variation on the theme. An earlier, screw mount SL-11 with the name engraved on the prism face rather than a glue on nameplate. Far right is Sears' "bread and butter" SLR of the late 60s to about 1975, the TLS with through lens metering. This is proabably a mid-life version. The earliest would have had the name engraved. Later versions have a black leatherette filler where the namplate is and the "atomic" Sears symbol above. I'm looking for the accessory meters for the Singlex and SL-11 and for a bayonet mount SL-11. I'll put a smile on Ron Herron's face with this. I'm fairly sure the 55/2.8 and 55/1.8 lenses on the Sears cameras originated at Mamiya. The 55/1.4 on the Singlex may have, but it is very different from any Mamiya lens I've seen. Stephen. I just tried again. My 55/1.4 Rikenon will not mount on the Nikkorex F. The 50/2 Nikkor S goes on the Singlex slick as you please! Bill

Sears had a long-standing relationship with Mamiya, who re-branded a lot of lenses and cameras with the Sears name. It was by no means exclusive, as several others, such as Ricoh, did the same thing. And you did, Bill. Put a smile on my face, that is! ;D

Dragging up an aged topic but plural of Singlex would be (in my Book) Singlices. cf. with index = indices my case rests.

I believe singular...ex, plural...ices is true only of words derived from Latin.
I thought Singlex was a manufactured word from Single Lens Reflex.

I thought it was a house that stood by itself as opposed to a duplex or triplex etc.

I second Roy's directive.
Anyway, what's wrong with detached, semi-detached and terrace? They've been used to describe town houses in the UK for at least 100 years.
As an aside, just after the war our local paper used to charge classified small ads by the line not by the word, and a favourite of estate agents (realtors - UGH) was "des sem det bung gar qrd", short for "desirable semi-detached bungalow with a garage in a quiet road"
Text-phone shorthand exponents? You haven't lived!

I agree with caperunner and PeterW - Apex, apices: Index, indices: Singlex, singlices. "Anyway, what's wrong with detached, semi-detached and terrace? They've been used to describe town houses in the UK for at least 100 years." Peter knows because he was there when the words were first used. It never ceases to amaze me how many different names can be associated with basically the same product. Nice line up.

And I always thought a singlex was a discarded spouse.
