I had the opportunity to try a little informal portrait work today. Dusted off the old 85/1.8 MF Nikkor and mounted it on the D700. Shot this at F4 and 3200 ISO JPEG FINE. Some work in PS Elements 2.0 and cropped for 8x10 printing. I think my mother in law has great character and I think it shows. She is also a good sport for posing on her 89th birthday. Anyway, I don't often to people photos so I am happy with the way it turned out and also the way the D700 handles high ISOs. The camera is slowly growing on me. Bob

Bob:
Nice shot. Your mother-in-law looks like a sharp lady. I suspect it's gonna get harder and harder to finish a roll in a film camera with that D700 around.

Bob,
A splendid portrait of a lovely lady who, obviously has a sense of humour. She must be smiling at your hybrid photo apparatus. But it certainly works beautifully.

Thanks guys. It is going to be hard to finish a roll of film in a camera at least till the honeymoon is over with the D700 and that may be a long while. I'll have to look up rules for portraiture while I'm at it too. I am just stunned, normal condition for me, at what this camera can do with high ISOs, JPEG format and old ai lenses. The lower ISOs are just fine too. No more carrying different speed films around on holiday and having to switch indoors to outdoors and better yet, to me, not having to drag a flash unt around too.
