Hi all,
Haven’t posted much for a time as I’ve been rather busy one way and another, so here are a few comments on recent offerings:
Shanghai RFs:
I’ve never actually seen a Chinese Leica copy in the metal. They don’t seem to have found their way in to the UK. Anyone here own one, and can say how it compares with the FED and other Russian Leica copies?
I wonder what the strength of camera collecting is in China. When I was thinning my collection – sorry, accumulation – some months ago I sold a couple of mid 1960s German folders to guys in China via ebay and got very good feedback, so there must be a few collectors there. I seem to remember reading some time ago about a camera museum in China, but I can’t remember where I read it.
Ron, when you bought the flute as well as the mandolin was the flute a western-type Boehm system, and did you/do you play it? I tried a flute once, but couldn’t get on with it, nor could I get on with a clarinet. I suppose years of trumpet playing, trying to scream above top C for ‘powerhouse’ type stuff ruined my embouchure for any other type of wind instrument.
Re Paul:
I too hope he’s doing OK. He’s going through a very tough time. When Valerie died in 1996 I didn’t want even to look at a camera for nearly a year, but I came round again as I’m sure Paul will. Time eases the hurt and helps to erase the empty feeling, but it can’t erase memories, for which I’m grateful. I’m pretty sure John and Rachel will agree.
Mickey:
Congrats on the iMac. What a wonderful present, I’m sure you’ll thoroughly enjoy it. I used to run Macs years ago, including an original Mac Plus and an LC475, but I’ve been away from them for so long now I’d have to learn the operating system all over again.
Alex:
That’s a fine display of cameras, and I’m envious of the case. Mine live on the open shelves of converted bookcases, or on top of them – at least they did until I started to pack them in boxes ready to move my den downstairs. I’m afraid I didn’t dust them as often as I should, but I tried to exercise all the shutters every now and again.
More deer:
Lovely pictures, Bob. Not a lot else to say.
Buffalo Bill:
What a wonderful display. The artist Thom Ross seems to be quite a guy! I followed the links and watched the video but was very disappointed in it. IMHO it could have done with a lot more planning, sequence changing and editing. Also Ross spoke so quickly I had a job following what he was saying. Maybe I’m just getting old!
