Sunday morning I got up about 7:30, let the dog out and started the coffee. Then I put on a jacket and walked down or concrete drive toget the the newspaper. Fog had moved in during the night and ithjad frozen on sidewalks and roads. About halfway to the street I slipped, tried to keep from falling, then fell backwards. Before I hit the concrete I felt the worst pain I have ever felt. I looked down at my right foot and it was cocked off at about a 45 degee angle and the end of my leg bone was obviously not in it's socket. Sara was still in bed and I yelled for her--no response. After trying to get her attention for a couple of minutes I started to worry because it was about 28 degrees and I I went into shock I could be in real trouble. So I started pushing myself backwards up the driveway toward the house--the pain in the ankle was beyond description. Finally Sara heard me and called the paramedics. The doctor said I couldn't have broken the ankle more efficiently. It was broke in three places and dislocated to boot. Just got home tonight after spending the better part of two days in the hospital. I can't put any weight on the foot--I'm using a walker and Sara got a used wheelc hair which works for the computer. I wonly be able to drive for two months--broke my right ankle. I may be doing a lot from home. Well, that's how my week started. Regards Wayne

Wayne,
Sorry to hear about your bad break. I wish you a quick, easy recovery.
The second picture seems to indicate that you are all screwed up and have reverted back to film.
Cheer up.

Ouch, as someone that's torn ligaments from a right ankle before, that hurts to even look at those pictures. Glad to see you're ok and on the bright side at least you get a couple months of TLC from your wife now.

Thanks everyone for your good wishes. Mickey: You are right about me being screwed up, but that was the case before I broke my ankle!

Good Lord Wayne! That really sucks! I'm glad you are all right, but as someone who suffers from not being able to walk very good I know how you feel. I'm sorry this happened and I hope you heal quickly. At least it didn't happen when you were in China, eh?

Randy:
One of my first thoughts was "Boy, I glad this didn't happen a month ago." At that time we were packing to leave. The tickets were non-refundable.

Wayne, old friend, what can I say that the others haven't already said?
I have an idea of the pain you went through as I broke my shoulder socket after a fall an icy pavement some years ago. I had to wait two hours in pain at the hospital as there had been a multiple car crash on the motorway and the doctors were all busy attending to people with life-threatening injuries.
For some reason my shoulder couldn't be pinned, only pushed back in position and strapped up, and I made the mistake of trying to do too much too soon. I only succeeded in postponing the healing. Instead of two months it was a good six months followed by several months of physio before it was back to normal.
Take it easy and regard the two months as minimum, a starting point.
I know that not being able to walk is frustrating. Because of my leg problems I now have to use crutches even to get round the house and I'm now officially listed as disabled. I'm not allowed to cook a meal because I can't support myself on crutches and handle hot pans at the same time. John has resigned from his job to look after me and has applied to Social Services for a carer's allowance, but it will be only a small fraction of what he was earning, so financially things are a little tight.
On the bright side I can get round the town in my four-wheeled electric buggy that my children bought me. The shopkeepers, some of whom I've known for years, are very helpful, packing stuff I buy into my buggy basket and so on. I'm learning to live with it but sometimes I get so frustrated I feel like throwing things.
So, I repeat, take things easy, don't rush it, and get back to full mobility.
Best wishes,
PeterW

Peter, i dont know what your situation is, but if there is hope of your leg improving i hope it does sooner rather than later. it must be frustrating. it is lovely you have family that care for you, a true blessing

Peter:
I didn't realize you were having so many problems and I'm very sorry it is tough for you to get around. I'm sure that's very difficult for a person who has lived such an active life. Wish I had a temporary electric buggy:)

Wayne -
Sorry to hear about your accident. Fortunately, it wasn't worse (although that hardly seems adequate to say, given all the pain and grief you're going through).
Heal quickly. My thoughts are with you.

Oh wow, that doesn't look good. I hope the recovery is swift. I do notice something though, West Valley RMC hasn't set the date correctly on the X-Ray. Anyway, good luck, and try not to do that again!
