You are fortunate in that your wife also likes photography and you can share together!!!
That shot of the firehydrant is neat and I enjoy seeing such pics in addition to people ones.
It is not only my cataracted eyes that have grossly limited my shooting, but my increasing dislike for cold weather. There have been days I open the front door, tell the dog to go out and...if I feel chilled or she immediately runs back in the house, I stay inside.
No more like in by teen years, when I loved to go tent camping in the snow.
