They are doing some thinning in a stand around the local Emil Cedercreutz Museum. The founder was an artist and his special interest was to carve horses and dogs. What is then the better way to do the job but with horses. One day I passed by and had my camera with me. Unfortunately, horses were on a haybreak and the logger was hiding somewhere, so I was not able to take action shots. This picture is here because I would be delighted to get an unbiased opinion about my new (used) lens. I bought it from, an employee at a local glass works. I doubt, that he fooled me someway. isn't there noticeable distortion on that picture, or are my eyes lying ?

Interesting that the distortion is in the center of the image, not the sides. I think it has something to do with the snow

I think the shots are very sharp and crystal clear. Very nice!

Interesting blend of old, horses, technology and the wagon, modern tech. What powers the grapple/cherry picker hydralics on the wagon? Also, does it cut the tree down, delimb and cut to length?

I like the first one particularly Reijo.
You should look at the third scene through a mirror. Then have ten beers, and look at it again. If it hasn't gone straight then its the lens!

John, thanks I will try it next weekend. I went there today but had no luck either. The woodman was not present and the mares were exactly at the same place but they were sweaty and I heard the noise of a chain saw so the work is going on. I didn't want to go further, because I still sometimes see nightmares about a Texas Chain Saw Massacre . A tiny hydraulic system which helps in loading the trailer and that's all.

Thanks for the photo of the power unit. I could not see it in the first photos. Looks like a very efficient rig.

I'm nervous about chain saws too. I've found that it's best never to juggle more than three at once, because if you drop one, there'll be another one along in a split second. No point anyway, because the audience always disappears for some reason... lol

'Tis neat of the choice of horses to clear the area. Environmental too.
Years ago when I lived on the west coast, the environmentalists in Oregon were so strongly voiced that they forced loggers to use horses instead of mechanical means. Great!
But then after all had been going well for a time, they went one step further and created such a stink (no pun intended) that the loggers were forced to put DIAPERS on the horses.

Diapers on horses! I find that laughable as the manure is bio degradable. Just dodge the road apples, it is really easy. That rates right up there with trying to feed deer in a provincial park birth control drugs as opposed to allowing a controlled herd cull via hunting. Anyway, there is lots out there that make you wonder,

Yes...people can be a strange bunch. Especially those who join the bandwagon for some lobbying group. They seem to need the attachment of such groups, but for the most part IMO they have no idea what they are saying or demanding.
In Oregon, the lumber companies gave in just to get the joiks off their back and not getting in the way of business.

If I remember right, these horses had diapers. Anyway for a prudishness sake I have deleted the next frame. The place is about a hundred yards from the bench where Tom Hanks was shot in 1994. (Forrest Gumb Thanks for the comments! Reijo
