Shot the secon photo the other day in a part of town where some of the first homes were built back around the end of the 19th century. The area has since fallen into disrepair. A local builder purchased this old home and turned it into something beautiful. I shot the first photo several years ago with a Graphic 35 camera. Even in tougher economic times it's nice to see some people have an appreciation of the past. Nikon D300, 18-200 Nikkor Lens, ISO 250.

Beautiful old home, nice to see the before and after views. A Graphic 35 is a nice oldie too. Think I prefer the second image but that could be just the cleared up landscaping, paint and season change too.

Now that looks like a home, especially in the second shot, and not a ticky tacky box so common today. Good to see people preserving the past.

Nice to see elegant old places get some restoration. Hope they replace the "gingerbread" around the front porch, too!

Is the fascia now PVC? He's done a good job anyway. Don't think it would stand up to the gales over here though!
Regards - John
ps Is there a satellite dish round the back?

Nice to see elegant old places get some restoration. Hope they replace the "gingerbread" around the front porch, too! I had exactly the same thought. That tiny bit of gingerbread makes a world of difference. To John: I believe the sat dish is on the house behind this one. The sad thing is that this house is on the "other" side of the tracks and the minute the chain link comes down some of the local may feel the need to "tag" it with a gang sign--sort of like male curs pi$$ing to mark their territory. This has happened before when folks had tried restoring some of the old treasures. Wayne

Thanks to Ron, I know now what is gingerbread. It sure is a dot above a letter I and should be there.
Thank you Wayne, a great pair of pictures. What do you think about an idea to continue this (or a new) thread with a theme "saving the past". Nothing new but I haven't seen such here.

Here's another restoration. These places aren't old by Eastern U.S. or standards in other parts of the world but they are about as old as it gets around here. I really enjoy shooting them.
