Went to a flea market during lunch and could have picked up an Olympus 35 RC for $10. It was in really nice condition except for one small ding on the camera top next to the rewind knob. Seemed to be functioning properly. I remember picking one up at a garage sale in the late '90s for $7, then selling it in 2002 to a Swede on Ebay for $95.
The 35 RC is a great picture taker but I knew it I got it I never would shoot it because I now live in a digital world. So I left it on the table.

Wayne
I do the same with most film cameras now except if it happens to be a very tasty one. Digital will do that to you.

Now if I found a Leica 3G at a flea market for ten bucks, I would definately buy it.

I was thinking more along the lines of a barndoor Voigtlander but you got the drift. I am getting picky in my old age.

I had an Olympus 35RC. It was in good condition and took nice pictures, but it didn't fit in with my 'collection pruning' so rather than leave it siting in a box I sold to someone on the Rangefinder forum. I looked at a barndoor Voigtländer a short time ago on a market stall but the barn doors were stcking and the long release/wind-on was stiff. I had a suspicion it had been dropped, so I put it down again, even at £8. I've got enough cameras that need attention. Now a cheap Leica 3G. That would be a different kettle of fish, even one needing attention. PeterW

Does the IIIG still carry a premium? I thought that with collectors or their heirs selling stuff off and the advent of digital the value would drop. Uncle Octavio offered to give me his at one time. Knowing its value at the time (1991) I thought it best left to his children. I don't know what became of it.

I don't thin the value of the IIG has dropped much as it was the LAST of the small Leica Rangefinders. I think one even in user condition still will fetch well over a thousand dollars. The earlier M39 Leicas have dropped considerably in price.

I have and use a Olympus 35 RC myself. Very sharp optics. I have found a nice balance between my film and digital shooting. Film for me, digital for the family shots. I paid $15 for my 35 RC in a pawn shop back in the 80's. Love the full info finder which is rare on rangefinders of this genre.
