Didn't know where else to put this thread Just bought a new supply of rubber lens hoods to replace old split ones. Any suggestions on how to keep them in good condition? Thanks, Roy

Roy,
This suggestion may not be of any use.
I have found that merely exposing rubber to the air causes it to deteriorate and harden and split or break.
I think that keeping the lens hood in an air tight container might greatly extend its life. However, that could be more of a nuisance than it's worth. I don't know if a plastic bag would do. A jar does work but is cumbersome.
I gave up on rubber lens hoods in favour of the rigid metal or plastic ones. I simple slip the wide end over the front or rear of the lens, whichever allows it to fit best.

You must have more toxic air in your area. The only time I can remember one of my rubber hoods cracking was one that were around the house for like 20 years or more.

Thanks for the replies. The ones that I replaced were quite old. Perhaps they had simply reached the end of their lifespan. If these last 20 years, I won't need to worry! ;D

I keep mine in Zip-Lock bags.
