These Yashicas seem to have a reputation for bad leatherette. Both that I've found have a case of the uglies. The ratty stuff peels off fairly easily, at least this one did. I was able to use the old leatherette as a guide for making patterns. I found a large purse with a nice looking texture and bought it for 50 cents. There's enough to do about five more cameras! The fit could be a little better, especially on the back, but it's the first attempt... Thanks for the inspiration, Randy! Bill

The after and before picture. The recovered camera was actually much worse than the un-recovered unit here. The leatherette was actually crumbling.

Nice work! Much improved. These cameras deserve a new skin..

Looks to me to be an excellent job especially for a first attempt.

It does look pretty good from about three feet away. Closer examination shows the fit ca be improved. I'm also trying different adhesives. I couldn't find Pliobond so tried craft style rubber cement. That's not agressive enough, nor is the double sided tape I tried on the second camera. I bought a bottle of Weldwood contact cement that seems much like Plio'. Unfortunately the seal was broken and it's too thick to use. Back to the store!
I also scored a power winder for these cameras, almost like new in the original box. The leatherette looked fine but disintegrated as soon as I touched it. Fortunately I bought a purse large enough to cover both cameras and the winder several times!

Bill,
You might try LePage Pres-tite Contact Cement. It looks, smells and tastes like Pliobond and seems to be every bit as good. It comes in a 250mL can with built in brush. There are probably other sizes as well. You had best get the thinner also.
KEEP YOUR WINDOW OPEN.
