A couple of years ago, my sister asked my father to write down his memories of earlier years while he was still with us (although of course she didn't put it like that). Self-conscious as ever, he did so, with the rider that they were only for our information - which was a bit sad really, as by that time there was nobody left who could possibly be embarassed by anything he said. I thought you might like to share this page of his memoirs. I haven't breached his confidence, as the only name mentioned is long gone - and in any case was in a position to look after herself... Before she died my mother wrote down how it was when she was a girl in Nebraska and how the family came to Idaho. Very enlightening. Wish my dad had done the same. I, too, wish I had your father's handwriting. I sometimes can't read my own scribblings. Before typewriters became commonplace people took pride in their handwriting.
