I was told to bring plenty of shorts and tee-shirts with me to Canada - and a supply of sun-tan lotion. Still, at least you can tell its Canada... LOL Regards - John

The sun-tan lotion is so that the rain doesn't soak into your skin, just rolls off. This is what the geese in the background use it for and they seem content enough. All kidding aside I hope the weather improves quickly for you.

Nashville, Tenn, the home of Al Gore, just recorded its coldest temp for a July date, since 1877. We're not having that problem here. It has been 100 degrees F or better every day this week and it is expected to last into next week. Of course the weather here at this time of year is ALWAYS like this. I read soewhere a goose cr@ps it weight every 24 hours (or some other outlandishly short period). Watch where you step, John.

John,
The weather is in perfect keeping with the season.
It's summer. It rains.
In the winter it snows.
Could there possibly be anything more seasonable?
Don't get too friendly with those Canada geese. They have foul fowl tempers.
Where are you?

Sorry to hear about the weather, John. Hope it isn't spoiling things for you. The weather here in the south east UK has been a typical English summer - warm and sunny a lot of the time but with occasional showers.
Just so you don't get homesick, friends in Manchester tell me it's been miserable there the past few days, quite cold with grey skies and rain and drizzle most of the time.
Enjoy the rest of your stay.

Mickey,
Can't fault the logic of that. The only time I've been to Toronto, many years ago, it was in February so, naturally, it was snowing.
BTW, Why are the wild geese in Canada always called Canada geese and not Canadian geese?

Here in Chico it is following its seasonable norm--dry as a bone, and hotter than the hinges of ****! Lost track of how many days over 100 F. But when 102 in the shade feels pleasant, ya know it's been HOT! Roy

PeterW,
"BTW, Why are the wild geese in Canada always called Canada geese and not Canadian geese?"
Canada geese because their ancestors many millenia ago may have originated here when a pterodactyl egg mutated.
Canadian geese - Never. Due to their disgusting toilet (loo) habits, their evil tempers, their honking poor singing voices and their less than pristine world wide reputation we have refused to grant them citizenship. They can't even get temporary visas. They are all illegal wetbacks.

Hi Mickey I was at a loose end for a couple of hours. The geese were at the waterfront in Hamilton (don't worry - I don't hold you responsible for their behaviour) - I just wanted to get the raindrops into the picture! I'd seen a very low-key flyer for HMCS Haidra, so decided I'd go and have a look while I waited for the weather to improve. To be honest, I was half expecting to find an escort corvette from the poor picture in the flyer. Imagine my surprise and delight to find that you guys have a Tribal Class Frigate tucked away in a corner - the only one left in the world! To put this in perspective, it would be like an automobile buff suddenly finding that their next door neighbour had had a Rolls Royce Silver Phantom tucked away in their garage for 60 years! I've sent pictures to my friend, who served as Engineer Artificer on HMS Gurkha - Haida's sister ship. Wouldn't be surprised if he was on the next plane over! Regards - John

Now that is in every sense of the word a classic destroyer type, just great lines. I haven't seen her since she was on the Toronto waterfront. Next time I'm down east she will be on my to see list. Nice find, Eh. If it is a corvette you are after, HMCS Sackville is on display in Halifax. We are not very good at preserving our military history and it is a major miracle that these two ships were saved.

Well the weather continues to get worse and worse here. Even for a Mancunian, it's getting beyond a joke. Here are a couple of guys sheltering under a tree... Regards - John

John,
Just your luck to attend during a traditional and obviously highly successful rain dance.
Hiding under a tree during a rain storm is inviting oneself to an electrifying barbeque.
But aren't those traditional costumes splendid?

Well, I've been strictly censured for calling Haida a frigate - but that's just a matter of perspective. If you're on a merchant ship and somebody is trying to pump torpedoes into you, then I personally don't believe that it matters whether the ship that screams to the rescue is a corvette, a destroyer, a frigate, or a battleship! I'm loving it over here, and here are a couple more of my snaps... Chickadee.. The reason why these things are everywhere.. Regards - John

Good to see you are having a good time over here despite the weather. Censured you should be for calling a Tribal a Frigate and so should I for missing that. I can see your point though in the situation you describe. I don't think I would care either. If you ask me, the Merchant Navy gets short changed today when most people think of things like the Battle of the Atlantic and don't get the recognition they deserve.
