One got sucked under a semi-truck trailer here a few weeks ago and it was crushed like that one. I'll stick with my truck.

That's so total I'll bet it didn't even hurt much. This accident was in Louisiana.

You see quite a few Smart Cars around where I live.
The pic just reinforces my son John's preference for tough cars like Mercedes and Volvo.

So that's what Internet Technicians mean when they talk about compression.

Those dump trucks would have done fatal damage to just about anything caught between them. The size of trucks has trended steadily upwards at the behest of the trucking lobby while the same government that allowed them to get bigger has been applying pressure to make passenger vehicles smaller. Update: Here are details on this specific incident from Snopes. www.snopes.com/photos/accident/smallcar.asp

We saw a lot of Smart Cars in Italy in 2007. Made a lot of sense in places like Florence where there wasn't much parking. But even a Harley motorcycle can do fatal damage to them. There's no way I would take one out on a busy U.S. highway.

While I don't like the Smart cars myself, I would tend to agree with casualcollector that virtually any car involved in an accident like that would have fatal consequences for it's occupants. Still, the photo is a horrifying sight.

There's no way I would take one out on a busy U.S. highway. Certainly fatal to the Harley rider, and his body entering the passenger compartment of the car would break the neck of whoever was inside.

It is not very smart move to drive between heavy trucks, neither with a Smart nor Harley. If your hobby is to drive against a brick wall Smart is a better choice IMHO. Smart is actually a "rebadged" Mercedes it is a Daimler AG car as well. Smart in a NCAP test/ Youtube video

According to link by casualcollector, it wasnt the Smart Car involved in accident, they say it was actually a Ford Escape SUV (much bigger car than the smart car) and that the driver survived and has been released from hospital

sure...i get that such a small car brings concerns to using it for many people...obviously the people that do use them do so for economics and more so is their conscious effort to 'help the planet' where other people (all of us) will benefit, folly or smart can be debated of course. just seems odd to demonstrate how potentially exposed you might be a particular car that doesn't appeal to some by showing a photo of a squashed car which is actually a pretty large SUV...kinda like me showing a picture of a squashed foot and proclaiming that wearing open footwear is foolish when the person was really wearing steel capped boots what do we do, ban or condemn anyone that rides a motorcycle, bicycle, pedestrians?
