There's an old song "You don't know what you've got until you lose it."
Yesterday, when the collectors forum disappeared, I quickly realized that the thing I missed most wasn't the talk about cameras. It was the friend I had made in the U.K., Germany, Austria, Finland, Canada, New Zealand, Italy, the United States and others I can't even remember right now.
Over the past four and a half years this forum has grown--not huge--but just to a nice comfortable size. Some members have come, then moved on. A few of us have hung around. We have shared information about cameras and about experiences in life. We have shared the sorrow of members who have lost loved ones. We have helped celebrate good things that have happened to members of our group.
Camera Collectors forum has been more than a place to discuss photography. It has also become an "extended family" for many of us. And there is one person who made that happen--Randy
I think anyone who opeates a forum occassionally has to deal with--how can I put this-- "IDIOTS" Yeah, that's the word I'm looking for. On every forum there seem to be people who believe they have a right to say anything they feel like saying--the right of "freedom of speech." When it comes to the Internet, that just total baloney (I can think of a better word). Forum administrators have the right to make rules about what can and can't be said. And if the rules say you shouldn't get into politics, then if you just have to talk politics, you can always go to a political forum. A ban on politics on a camera forum isn't compromising anyone's freedom of expression. And if that ruffles some people's feathers--tough s--t! Either keep your mouths shout of go away.
Anyway, back to Randy. He started this forum. He has put a lot of time into it. It has given him a lot of headaches--especially when he has plenty of more important issues to deal with.
So for myself--and I think a lot of other members, I just want to say THANK YOU RANDY!. You are sort of the father of this extended family and we really appreciate what you have done.
Wayne
