Hi, I was quite sad. After more than 10 years service my 20 inch Sony Trinitron CRT monitor decided to call it a day. John had a look at it and pronounced it beyond economic recall so we went out shopping for a new one. I had fondly imagined that all flat screen monitors were much the same except for size, but when I looked at different makes set up in a couple of electronic superstores I ruled out some of them almost immediately, even allowing for the inexpert setting up of the average electronics shop asistant. Finally the choice was between two, a Hewlett Packard and one made by LC Electronics in the Netherlands. Side by side I could see very little difference in picture or colour quality but the LC was less expensive by quite a lot because it was on pre-Christmas discount offer. It carried a three-year on-site parts and labour guarantee which was attractive, so I settled on a 61cm (24 inch) widescreen LC . We brought it home and John set it up for me. I'm very pleased with it. The picture quality is excellent, and the 21 inch screen width means that the toolbox and pallets in Photoshop can stay at the sides and don't get in the way of a nice big picture. So I'm a happy bunny again. PeterW

Peter, we do have to give up the old things and move on with the modern world. Why only yesterday, the veterinarian told me that I'd better be looking for a new team of mules to pull the wagon that carries all my wet plate camera gear. My friends keep telling me to give it up and leap ahead technologically... but I don't think that new fangled paper backed roll film is all it's cracked up to be.
Merry Christmas to all, Orlin in SC/USA

I got a used setup from a friend this year. I've got Intel and a 21 flat screen. I love it. My old monitor is sitting on the floor, it must weigh 50 pounds!

I am using an old Philips CRT and dread the day I have to replace it. There are just too many choices to make. Glad you found one you are happy with.

When my family gave me a gift a several months ago of a 24" iMac I was overwhelmed.
When I first saw my photos on that large screen I said to myself "Mickey you ARE a photographer."
I would hate to have to go back to that Lilliputian 12" screen and make a liar of myself.
Vive la (le?) change.

I have a 24-inch HP LCD. The LCD screens are a lot easier on the etes. The only thing about them is that if you try to eyeball color calibration, moving year head a few inces one way or the othe changes the contrast and shadings slightly. I invested in a "Huey" calibrator that takes my eyes out of the process and works pretty well for 60 bucks.
(I actually wish mine was about 20 inches which would give me a little more space in my cabinet.)
