Friday March 26 is my official last day of work before retirement. In celebration I found this new-to-me 4-wheel drive pickup which will be used to take me on some photography jaunts to the backcountry and maybe sometime down the road pull a small travel trailer. I sent a photo of it to Norm, an old high school classmate and he said I should not be alloed to cruise town in it unless my wife accompanied me. I reminded him that males our age are totally invisible to any woman under 50 so the danger is very slight. I wish I could have found a brighter color. I have noticed that small cars no longer try to force their way into my lane, ahead of me, where two lanes become one. Wayne

Nice present, Wayne. Too bad it's not a Chevy. Just kidding. Enjoy your retirement (it's not half bad, now that I'm almost two years into mine), and that truck. (and there are a lot of good-looking 50-yr-olds these days). LOL!

Wayne,
Congratulations on your retirement (in 3 days).
Life begins with retirement.
Enjoy your beautiful truck. May it carry you to many happy adventures.
I promise to ease up on my little Toyota's gas pedal and allow you to get in front of me in any merge lanes.

When I had a little green truck, I would always have trouble getting people to move out of the way when I was going to a fire call. When I got a big red truck (not as bright as yours), that problem mostly went away. Congratulations on your retirement.

For those of you overseas, there are almost as many pickup trucks as cars in the rural areas of the American South and West. The farther east one goes, the fewer pickups as seen--especially the four-wheel-drive types. A lot of people out here need them for work--farming, construction, ranching. But a lot of folks (like me) just want something that can negotiate a backcountry road now and then. If I had to commute long distances daily I certainly wouldn't have one because of the amount of fuel they use-- about 16 miles per gallon. But now that I won't be driving every day (and it only was a six-mile roundtrip to work anyway), I figure I can afford it.

Wayne, it's a beauty! You should have some wonderful times exploring back roads, and now you'll have the time to do it!
