Hi! This is my first post, but I'm just dying to tell you all what happened. Went to a thrift store with my wife, no cameras, I asked the cashier if they had any and she said no,but her dads old ones were at home gathering dust, did I want them?I was very polite and said "yes please".She left and returned a couple of minutes later, handed me a bag. I said" thank you miss"and looked inside. There's a Miranda Sensorex EE with the 50mm/1.8, a 135mm/2.8 AND a Zenit E with the Helios 58mm. Like I said, this is my first post, my name is Doug (I had a Suzuki, that's where the zook comes from),and it pays to be polite, don't you think?

Hello. Doug! Welcome to the friendliest forum on the 'net!
Wow, what a nice surprise! Maybe I'll tag along the next time you go thrift shop hopping, and hope some of that luck rubs off on me! ;D ;D
O wait, you're clear across the continent from me---Oh well.
Welcome,
Roy

I once had a similar experience. I had found a couple of cameras at an antique shop, and when I went to pay for them, the owner pulled out a box of cameras from under the counter. There was a Super Ricohflex, which I offered $20 for, but the rest were nothing special, just box Brownies of various sizes. He said "you might as well take them, because I'll never sell them". Maybe he felt guilty about taking $20 for the Ricohflex with the stuck lens and shutter.

Welcome Doug:
Just shows it pays to be polite. A lot of folks in this area know I have an interest in old cameras (I write a weekly general interest newspaper column) and at least once a year someone drops off a camera they think might interest me. Most don't but I appreciate the thought.

Welcome, Doug! I think many of us have had such a "lucky" experience. My one and only Minolta, an X-700, was a gift that "didn't work." I changed the battery when I got it home and it miraculously started working again!

I've had alot of things like that happen. It's downright scary sometimes. Within the last month I've gotten a Pentax ZX-M with 3 lenses for 4 bucks, and I just had a Olympus Camedia given to me. Whatever the reasons, it's been keeping a smile on my face! Thank you for the greetings, It's nice to find folks with the same interests !!

If you let your "camera collecting" affliction be known, I think you'll be surprised at the number of "would you like this one" comments you get from friends and acquaintances. Some of them are best used as boat anchors, but there are a surprising number of gems, too! ;D

Doug, Gad zooks, as would have been said a couple of hundred years ago. If I am nice to you will you give them to me? Postage should cost you a lot to the UK! Welcome. I have only just beaten you here - arriving just a few days ago. The natives are friendly.

Hi Doug, Welcome ! All about welcoming have been said by Roy: This is definitely the friendliest forum . You will meet a lot of friendly and humorous people here. You found two great cameras ! I got my Zenit E with 6.3/400 lens as a gift from a former neighbour. What kind of Suzuki did you ride ? Two or four wheels ? Some years ago I had the LJ80 and a Vitara, both on four wheels. The LJ80 was the best off-road vehicle I have ever seen, but rusted through during 16 years. MIK

I used to ride a GS850. Scared the little woman and local church ladies too much,so I had to sell it. I'm a good boy now with nice hobbies

Oh, cool. You got a Zenit kit. That's a great start. They're a bit spartan, but certainly good cameras. Hope you have a lot of fun with it.

That's good to know, drako. It's just a shame I didn't find it five years ago.
