I don't know anything specifically about that lens, but at f1.8 there is a massive improvement for available light photography over the zoom lenses around.
I presume the 'S' indicates it is a digital lens rather than having full 35 frame coverage.

I can't comment directly on that lens, not owning one, but it does seem to get good reviews by most people. Even thought the focal length is 35mm you get an angle of view of about a 52mm lens on a full frame camera. No big deal if you like that angle of view. As Dave said it sure is an improvement over a slow zoom for low light potential.
