Hi everybody, new to the forum, (Great place) looking for guidance on the above. I have a Yashica FX-D Quartz, with a Sirius 28mm, 1:28, C/Y mount. A Vivitar 80-200mm, 1:4, TX C/Y mount, and a Vivitar 400mm, 1:5.6, autotelephoto TX CY mount, with an assortment of tubes and 2x converters. I have the chance of purchasing a Nikon F3 (body only), I have been trawling through the likes of e-bay and amazon trying to find a TX or even a T4 adaptor for the Nikon, is there such a thing or are they rarer than rockinghorse poo. Do I settle for a C/Y adaptor to Nikon and keep the outfit I've got, or sell all my existing C/Y camera outfit and buy some Nikon lenses and start afresh. Hope this is not too long winded, all feedback much appreciated. Cassius.

Hello Cassius! Welcome to the forum! I think you will enjoy it. There is is a lot of experience and knowledge here, and friendly folks happy to share it. Good senses of humor, too, and as ready to poke fun at themselves as anyone else!
About T4 and TX adapters--your CY adapters are among the more readily available ones. K-mount and Nikon mount seem to be the most difficult to obtain. They do show up on E-bay, but if they are "Buy it now" offerings, they sell almost immediately. Auction prices go quite high on them now. For a while they were quite inexpensive, but now the prices have started back up. Sometimes you can get better deals by purchasing a lens that happens to have the correct mount on it. Watch them too. Familiarize your self with the appearance of the mounts so you can identify them from the poor photos posted by many sellers.
Possibly a better solution than using a CY to Nikon adapter (if needed) would be to obtain a TX in M42 mount, then adapt that to Nikon. If you can get an M42 in "ES" configuration (that's the one for the Spotmatic F) it is simple to use, and can be adapted to just about any mount. I use mine on a Canon FD-mount that way and it works well. Good luck, and enjoy those old lenses! I sure enjoy mine! Roy

Welcome Cassius. Not the Gaius Cassius Longinus I presume. ;D
I'm no help to you I'm afraid. Other than an unused Adaptall Topcon mount I have no experience of them.

Many thanks Roy, I certainly won't give up looking then.
daveh, no sir not that Cassius, got give the nickname by a guy I knocked out in the early sixties, his name happened to be Cooper. Did u take the picture of the Osprey, never got that close (YET), I see them all summer, just a few miles away at Rutland Water and The Eyebrook Reservoir.

Cassius, did Cooper have a clay jaw rather than one of glass? If you mean the avatar photo, yes. It was in Isla Margarita, Venezuela. I thought it is a Fish Eagle rather than an Osprey, but I haven't really properly checked it out. It was taken on a Pentax *ist - 6 megapixel and 28-300 zoom (though it is a little optimistic in calling the telephoto 300). Unfortunately I wasn't close enough to get a decent shot. There a little bit more quality in the photo than is showing up here, but not that much. Ah, Rutland. Nice area, though a bit far from the sea for me. The County went missing, but it's back...isn't it.

Welcome Cassius!
The Pentax K and Nikon AI are probably among the more common of the TX adapters. With Pentax and Nikon staying true to their mount heritage into the digital era, they are in the greatest demand. Best way to get the adapter would be to comb the secondhand stores for a lens with adapter attached.
