I love my M8 , but not for chasing kids , my bulky Pentax K10D , is excellent , even with manual lenses , my Panasonic L1 works with my old Rokkors [ with tunnel vison ] but I craved a carry all camera - and an AF 50mm prime lens .
I found a refurb EP 1 , and it seemed perfect , but I due to reduced circumstances [ no work ] I would never manage a 50mm equiv lens . I also find screen focusing dee'taches me from the camera , I just can't get along with it . [ autism rules ]
For £260 , I have bought an ex dem , ex showcase , Sony A230 with zoom , which enables my mid 90s Minolta 50 f 1.7 and is lighter and more compact .
I also hope to revive my Canon G2 , as a point and shoot too - the images are quite acceptable , even at 4 meg .
I should receive it next week .

Dee, I find the same: I need to use reading glasses - give me a proper viewfinder any day.

I too dislike screen focusing. The image is much too small to know whether one is in or out of focus. I do not see how one can hold a camera steady when one's arms are stretched out away from the body. The screen image is invisible under many lighting conditions. I prefer a plain ground glass, a split image, a superimposed image, a microprism or even a simple focusing scale. Mickey Addendum, Twin Lens Reflexes and medium format SLR's are exceptions. But they are well braced against the body, have pop up, eye level magnifiers for critical focusing and their screens are well shaded. They are a pleasure to use once one grows accustomed to things being backwards. M.O.

Seeing so many compacts around , I wondered if this is just an autism glitch , so thanks for the input .
