Hi everyone,
On another forum someone asked if there was a knockoff of the Petri 7S and was soundly rebuked and laughed at. Well, here's my example (sorry for the picture detail not being up to snuff, I'm still learning the art of close focus with this dang Kodak) and it looks pretty real to me. First up is my Petri 7
Next is my Petri 7S
Followed by their doppelganger the Carena RS
If you notice the differences you'll find the Carena has the same top plate as the Petri 7S (minus the cut out for the meter and with a small round hole near the RF window) only it's cheap plastic rather than metal, the same lens barrel assembly only it's black plastic instead of metal, no m or x sync. lever for the flash, a black plastic riser beneath the hot shoe (the Petris both have a cold shoe) and the Carena has cheap stamped metal strap lugs lower than the Petris and closer to the camera front. Also no typical green window ala Petri just a clear lens. Camera was probably made by Petri but to waaay cheaper standards. Otherwise the lens on all 3 is a 45 f2.8, shutter speeds are identical between all 3 cameras, counter and shutter release button identical to Petri 7S, rear cocking/winding mechanism like the 7S (the Petri 7 uses a top mounted lever rather than a rear lever inside the camera body), same viewing window , but the only difference is the rewind knob which has a wider dished flip up rewind lever. If you'd like I can post pictures of the differences, but just thought I'd share to show the skeptics out there that this camera exists and to give them pause the next time before they're so quick to scoff and dismiss a newbie's question. Now you know another reason why I use "weirdcollector" as most people wouldn't care about the difference in such a modest camera, LOL.
