I finally made the jump to the 1970's and got a Pentax K1000. My first SLR! Outstanding little camera! My issue is, if one wears glasses (trifocals, in my case), must one wear them in order to focus? What does everyone else do? It seems that no matter what you do, you may be doing it wrong. Suggestions? Experiences?

stereokodak, If, while wearing your glasses or without your glasses, you can see the entire focusing screen and focus accurately there is no need for any assists. If you have difficulty there are dioptric eyepieces in various strengths that can be attached to your camera. I suggest you try this. cgi.ebay.ca/Eyecup-Eye-Cup-Canon-EOS-Rebel-XS-XSi-XTi-XT-5D-II-/230445016109?pt=Digital_Camera_Accessories&hash=item35a797e42dI purchased one and find it to be excellent. You will want one for the Pentax K1000. Jiakgong has an enormous selection of camera accessories at very reasonable prices and of good quality. I have made 6 purchases from them. They are a good company with which to deal. They will answer your questions. Mickey

Tri-focals may be problematical with the line falling into your field of view but if that doesn't happen, there should be no problem.
I have trouble with my Nikon F but if I wear +1.75 reading glasses I can see the screen much more clearly. Other cameras i have no trouble with, yet!

Hi All! I use hyperfocal distance a lot, but for close-ups where you have to focus, an eye cup is nice. I wear the bi-focals with no visible line ( I can't remember the technical name for them), and I believe they're offered as tri-focals as well. Once you get used to them, they're great Doug

Yep, I've got'em! They work real well for me, except that I got the reactive lenses that darken in bright light. They are very nice also, but they hinder focusing with slow lenses and dim 'finders! Ah, the joys of the "Golden" years! Roy

I wear glasses, but I can see everything in the viewfinder.

I wear no line bifocals and don't have any trouble with slr viewfinders (Nikon). I have a built in diopter that I probably could adjust to my vision without glasses but find it easier just to shoot with glasses on.I have more problem with rangefinder cameras--it's fairly easy to scratch the glasses with the metal ring around the viewfinder window on many old cameras
