I finally bought a 'freeview box' (digital TV decoder) last week, which means I get to watch the free channel which broadcasts international news and documentaries. Last night I caught a German piece on the courageous German photojournalist Jürgen Schadeberg, who was art director at the South African Drum Magazine from the 50s. Schadeberg seemed to go nowhere without a Leica M8 hanging round his neck (he also used a Canon DSLR and at one stage of the show was interviewed behind a table of leicas, Rolleis and various other jewels). He commented (and I paraphrase) that when he 1st arrived in Sth Africa in 1950, they told him he'd never get work with his 'miniature' camera. He went on to say that the 2 styles of photo (Speed Graphic and Leica) were completely different. With the former, if you were sent to cover a shooting, you'd photograph the bullet hole in the wall, probably with a finger pointing to it. With the latter, you'd photograph the people at the scene. It was also interesting to see how well the almost-octogenarian photographer has adapted to digital. Whether using the Leica or Canon, he'd gently pose his subjects, putting them at obvious ease, and immediately show them the results on the back of the camera. A delightful process to watch. I found his website for those who, like me, were unaware of this important photojournalist: www.jurgenschadeberg.com/

Thanks. I shall be having a look later. I've got two windows open at the moment. The other is Brive v Sale Sharks with Brive winning 18-9. Two tries to Brive. Not too sure, NtoR if many of the others on here will be interested in rugby.

Dave, I could never work out when a round ball ball was upside down, let alone an oblong one.
