What can you tell me about this 3 door station wagon? I know it is in Brazil, but was also made in France. Verdett or something like that. Looks like an American 1949 Mercury in the front and a 1953 Ford in the rear. Found the pics in an image search.

Simca made a Vedette. I am trying to track down photos to see if is the correct vehicle. Addendum: photo is nothing like, but text fits (photo is the author's interpretation and may be well of a much later model.) www.oldclassiccar.co.uk/simca.htmPhoto of Ford Vedette on Wiki - Ford France were merged with Simca in !954, and the car became the Simca Vedette, though still known as Ford Vedette in some markets.

My first car was a 1953 Ford Consul. Other than its being a sedan it looked very much like the car you have posted. There was virtually no chrome on the car. Its bumpers were painted. The car was a drab olive colour with some drab cream two toning. It was a dreadful machine that liked nothing better than to stall if it was driven through the tiniest puddle. I did not keep it for long. Trying to nurse it through its first Toronto winter convinced me to rid myself of the monster.

Mickey,
That was a well-known party trick of those Consuls. They had a sloping oil filter housing placed just right to direct spray from puddles straight on to the distributor.
Many owners cut the ends off the fingers of a rubber washing-up glove and tied it over the distributor with the HT leads poking out the fingers. Worked a treat!

I figured Peter would be the one to ask because of his car knowledge. I think the most peculiar thing about this car is 1 door and the driver's side and 2 doors on the passenger side. I asked a person on another forum, and he told me he had seen one, and one thing he saw was it had mcpherson struts and a small Ford flathead V8.
