So yesterday i was at my Grandma's house for Christmas with the family and she knows i like cameras, so she gave me my Grandfathers old Canon Rebel S II or 1000Fn (i think) in other parts of the world. It has a 35-135mm 4.5-5.6 lens on it. I took my moms battery out of her Minolta and put in the Canon and the camera works just fine. Quick focus i might add. I was talking to my uncle about lenses and he said that i would need EF lenses for this. Is this right?
Another question, does anybody have experience with canon SLRs like this?

Hi Andy I have an EOS Rebel XSn which I think is essentially the same as yours. Canon played naming games with this series of camera and it is a little difficult to sort out exactly which one you have. Does yours look anything like this? I really like mine. I wish I had more lenses for it, having only a 35-80. You are right, very quick focusing. I found the Butkus manual (Mickey's link) to be very helpful. Enjoy! Roy

Roy, if Andy has written the model number down correctly, it's a slightly older model that yours, which I believe is the EOS 500 Dave.

Here is a pic of the camera.
I also noticed a box in the garage that said "old cameras" on it, so i will have to go through it with my Grandma sometime and see what is in it.

Canon seems very fond of the name "EOS Rebel X" and its variations. Here is my contribution to the confusion. I also have an EOS 5000. The goddess of the dawn must be getting sleepy by now. Mickey

My contribution, an EOS 3000N, Rebel XS, Rebel G x2 and Rebel x2. Like Randy with Maxxums and others with Nikon F auto everythings, I pick them all up for pennies on the dollar these days. Nobody wants AF SLRs, except me. I even have 6 Olympus OM77 and a bunch of Nikon N2020/2000 same reason.
