I was feeling a little down yesterday so I decided to watch an episode of my favorite comedy, "Keeping Up Appearances". It was the Episode titled "Let there be Light". I ended up laughing till my sides hurt, and it chased my blues away ;D Doug

Onslow was my favourite. So laid back. And an elegant dresser. Abashed by nothing.

Wonderful series. Is yours the British made series, or is there a re-hash of it? Patricia Routledge comes from just near us. I know people of similar ilk to Hyacinth. I wonder if the character was based on any of them.

Dave, It's the original series. I absolutely love it ! I'm not sure which character I like best, they're all so good, but our next door neighbor bears an uncanny resemblance (character, not physical) to Hyacinth, right down to the candlelight suppers and hen pecked husband. Poor Richard Doug

I'm glad it is the original. I know some comedy series were remade and lost just about everything in the translation. Coming from you to us we have had such as Bilko, Burns and Allen, and later series like Mash and Soap. More recently still Curb Your Enthusiasm. Brilliant all of them. I find it difficult to pick out a favourite, but I would probably settle on Dad's Army.

I have got to admit I really enjoy English comedies like the one the OP mentioned. My current favourite American comedy is The Big Bang Theory. I have not found anything near as satisfying as Corner GAS, for a Canadian comedy, since it went off air. Even Little Mosque on the Prairie doesn't quite do it.

Corner Gas was an excellent not in your face comedy. I miss it. I also miss The Red Green Show which was just the opposite.
Little Mosque (if they will excuse the expression) is a ham-fisted, pathetically unfunny attempt at humour.
Today's best Canadian comedy show is The Rick Mercer Report. But I think one must be a Canuck to really appreciate it.
As usual I am too opinionated.

I don't we see most of those over here, but then I haven't been watching too much TV of late anyway.
Right, I shall put this in post into English:
Too opinionated? Never. As far as I am aware we don't get most of those series over here, but I haven't been watching too much TV anyway these last few months.

Opinionated you may be but I would go along with what you said. You know I totally forgot about the American comedy Two and a Half Men. That keeps me howling too.

My kids love the Big Bang Theory because they are nerdy enough to get the jokes and they can finish the lines before the actors say them. So far, they haven't tried freeze framing the formula boards to analyze the math, but I am sure that day is coming.

I dont know any of these series you mentioned, except "Two and a half man". I`ve seen some episodes, very funny, even they are translated into German. Does someone remember the series "Fawlty Towers" with John Cleese, one of the funniest series I have ever seen. It had been broadcasted ( the original version with subtitles ) here about 15 or 20 years ago. It proved to me that you can`t translate English humor to German at all. Just like the Marx Bros. movies, they are not funny in German...

Hi MIK ! "Fawlty Towers" was very good. It's true that you can't translate English humor to German. Somehow it just doesn't work, but I also have some German comedy on the computer. I used to get the biggest kick out of Didi Hallervordens' "Non Stop Nonsense" shows. It's great slap-stick, and fun to watch Doug
