I realize this may be a big-ask .. but I will ask anyway All my purchases have been via ebay.. the last couple of dealing have left me slightly pissed-off I have done some web searching and could only find one that will export. I looking for outlets that have cameras ( pre 1990 range finder) at a reasonable price and are willing to export. Col

G'day Col, Sorry, Col, can't help on this one, but I was a little puzzled at first by your posting. I must have glanced at your location loads of times, Albany WA, and if I thought at all about it I probably assumed it was a town in the state of Washington in the US. So why would you be worried about camera sellers who export? There's another Albany that's part of Washington, that's part of Sunderland, that's part of Tyne and Weir (sounds like the house that Jack built in the north east of England but that didn't seem appropriate . Then the penny dropped. You're in Albany Western Australia. Now your posting makes sense to me. PeterW

Hi Col! I'm not sure about who exports and who doesn't, but I will look around and see if I can find some for you that do. I've used e-bay for quite a few years now, lately it's been getting more difficult to find a good deal or honest dealers. I find myself using it a lot less. KEH is a very good dealer in used cameras, as is Midwest Photo Exchange, their shipping costs to Australia might be too high though. I'll keep my eyes open. Doug

Col
Some of the larger American stores may ship overseas. In addition to KEH, which Doug mentioned, there are B&H and Adorama. The cost of shipping to OZ may be a problem for private individuals. Someone in OZ wanted a back I had for a Graflex that he had. The short of it was that it would cost nearly as much to ship it via post as the back was worth so it did not go. I had shipped a CD to OZ via surface post from Canada and that took about 4 months to get there. The rates in other countries differ I am sure but it is a PITA to send anything from Canada via post to OZ, if it is cheap enough it takes too long otherwise it becomes too expensive for low cost items.

Peter. I initially had the same idea as you. Here, "WA" is the postal service abbreviation for Washington State. I even tried to find Albany Washington on Google Earth. I finally figured it out.

Col did say in his first (?) post that he was from Aus. If you missed that then you wouldn't know, unless you read every post carefully.
I did find one shop in the States that would ship overseas. The trouble was the postage costs for even a small item were rather high., so whatever it was I thought of buying I didn't bother with.

Thanks for all your help guys...I guess my choice is a very limited amount of suppliers from the USA or UK that really know how the postage can be charged.. or stick with ebay sellers from around Russia. Colin ..in Albany Western Oz

Col, you might want to keep an eye on TradeMe over the Ditch. www.trademe.co.nzI've picked up about 20 rangefinders of Trademe over the years. Some great buys, some total wrecks. Not much FSR stuff, which seems to be your kick at the moment, but lots of lower end German (Braun and AGFA, and screeds of Japanese compact rangefinders. Prices vary from unrealistic to absolute bargains & you can't get sniped as every auction auto-extends. Exchange rate is well in your favour for the foreseeable future, meaning the Pacific Peso price on the screen will probably translate into equivalent Ozbucks once you factor in shipping. I've bid against Aussie collectors before and been asked if I ship to Oz on the odd occasion I actually sell something. BTW, Fairfax owns Trademe now, so you'll be supporting the local WA economy, well...sort of. Last comment, the standard of presentation, photos, descriptions, is generally lower on TradMe than eBay. My only rule is that I stay away from vendors who post lots of conditions and grumpy messages (eg"no time wasters") with their sales pitch. As someone who spent many years in retail & technical service, I refuse to deal with people who forget that customers, even in online auctions, aren't actually compelled to buy from them.
