Our daughter's best friend in high school now lives in Japan, just north of Tokyo with her husband and two kids. We were quite worried about them. Our daughter talked to her friend's mother a while ago and she said she made contact and the family is fine although they have no power or water. The worst damage occurred about 200 miles north of them. We're really relieved.

I have seen it at the evening news on TV. What a massive damage and a unbelievable tragedy for the people there. I hope for them that there is no serious damage at the nuclear power plants.

Friends' son Simon and Rae his Japanese wife, live in Tokyo. Simon's mate Barry is also in Japan, a little out of Tokyo - he was (?still is) further north. I haven't heard anything to the contrary so I assume they are all fine.
At least it appears that the tsunami isn't as severe as they thought it might be, so I suppose that is a small blessing.
