Okay I realize is all about the amount of groups pictures are placed in....but what I just don't understand is .. submit quite a nice image and if your lucky you may get one or two comments ( never much use) then the core Flicker clan post dozens of really second rate images and the board light up.. Now I guess I do have an attitude problem.. don't want any of that invite guff or flashing stars ect ect Col the grumpy old bugger

Col,
The world got along without Flicker for so long except for the candles by which we were obliged to read. That ruined many good eyes.
I think we may very well manage without it now. I can.

Gotta admit I almost live on Flickr for an hour or two every day but at the same time I post very few photos and don't much care if I receive feedback. I just do it for the numerous camera based groups, interests in old cars, machinery, wildlife, dogs and the occasional curvaceous cutie of course. Hey, I'm married not dead, LOL. Anyhow I'm Just Plain Curt there and actually have a few of our other members listed as contacts.

I suspect that some flickr members congregate in gangs that always sing each others' praises.
It might be a misguided attempt to boost their pictures into that flickr explore thing.

Bob, if you mean explore, I'm not sure anyone's worked it out yet. Roughly, Flickr ranks all uploaded pictures on a scale of interestingness. The top 500 get published every day. People try to work out how to get as low as possible on the scale - lots of comments, lots of views, lots of favourites, lots of this, lots of that and lots of everything else. It has to be an automatic procedure considering the number of daily uploads, but nobody has worked out what factors weigh in or by how much.

I have a Pro flickr account - well the rugby club does, but most of the photos are mine and I have paid for it the last couple of years. It is not now connected to the rugby club website, so I assume the viewing figures have dropped somewhat of late.
I, too, think that there is praise heaped out for photos by gangs of unknown roaming viewers - known of course to each other. I do think some use it almost as a forum and that is how they get the throughput of comments.
