I noticed this week on a couple other forums, a highly spirited debate on what 35mm cameras are considered Classics, and what 35mm cameras are considered Modern. We really have no issues with that, as most people already know what catagory a camera belongs in. Maybe we are all just too smart and wise here at the CC, eh?

It seems to me that people bring up these topics just for the sake of arguing, if the forum gets dry they bring up one of these topics to create controversy.
And I would agree that we here at CC are one of the more sane forums, with no bashing or nonsense like that, and most likely smarter like you said.

Yea, I agree with Andy, this kind of topic could be argued forever to no satisfactory conclusion. Kind of pointless in a way.

Classic or not ? is the same category of question as "Art or not ? ". I startet a similar thread here some months ago, in the interest of the English language. And as Bob said, the difference between "classic, vintage and antique" is an endless story and the meaning varies, depending on the country you live.

Well, as one that takes them apart, I have always figured if it has LEDs or Automatic features, it's a Modern Camera...pretty much cut and dried.

I can't see why they are arguing. Nikons are classics and Minoltas are modern. ;D

I believe classic is undefined, matter of opinion, hence dispute. Vintage and antique are usually defined.

> And antique or not antique???that is the question!!!! On the TV programs the other evening this was the subject ..Conclusion in Europe 100 year + end of story.. in the USA anything like cameras / electronic stuff 50 years.. all other stuff must be 100 years..
So I reckon if I draw a label 'Eastman Kodak Made is the USA' and stick on it on my 75 year old Russian Fotokor camera.. Whoopee .. I now have an ANTIQUE!

classic or not .. is not so important for me. Because definition of classic or not is still absurd .... mostly depend on age of the person .... some people in my age may be think that full mechanical SLR camera is classic, but the older one (may be) will think that RF is classic , and the younger will say manual focus is classic. always make me confuse to make a group of which one is classic or not, that is why I start to believe that a classic or not is just a funny joke..... leica is classic ..... sony is modern europe cam is classic .... japan cam is modern Large format is classic..... 35mm is modern ... analog is classic.... digital is modern..... BW is classic .... color is modern.. dont know.... and dont care ...

That's why it makes no sense to debate here as they do elsewhere. We collect cameras, and we love them all.....no?

No. I don't like Leicas.
Actually, I'm just being contrary, I can't afford a Leica, thats all.

Anything any of us want to call "classic" is classic - as long as at least one other person agrees.
However, some cameras are more classic than others! ;D
